Garland Brewery Tour: Fall 2017
November 4, 2017 @ 10:30 am - 2:30 pm
North Texas Bicycle Brewery Tour, Fall 2017 Edition: Garland. We gather at the Downtown Garland Dart Station (Blue Line) and roll at 10:45am. Our first stop is Intrinsic Smokehouse and Brewery for a beer and a bite to eat. http://intrinsicbrewing.com The folks at Intrinsic are going to have a choice of sandwich ready for anyone who wants to preorder. The price is $6 for the sandwich. To preorder your meal go to this lilnk: https://squareup.com/store/intrinsic-smokehouse-and-brewery/ You don’t have to perorder, but it will help you avoid additional lines. Our second stop is Lakewood Brewing Company – approximate arrival time is 12:15p. They will have easy cans of their beer to purchase in the back so everyone doesn’t have to wait in line. https://lakewoodbrewing.com Our last brewery is Oak Highlands – approximate arrival time is 1:15p. http://www.oakhighlandsbrewery.com Both Lakewood Brewing and Oak Highlands should have food trucks as well. When you’re done, there’s a nearby Dart rail station. The LBJ/Skillman Dart station is only a mile away from Oak Highlands Brewery and from there the train can easily get you back to either the Downtown Garland Station or whereever you started. New T-shirts *may* be available. We’re thinking of a wicking fabric as opposed to cotton. Details coming. We still have a few of the black ones. If we have new ones, the black ones will be at a reduced price. More details to be added in future updates to this post. Finally we have a few suggestions and tips and we encourage you to read through them. Brewery Tour Rules 1. This is a family friendly event, we want everyone to have a great time, so please ride and drink responsibly. 2. Do not drink alcoholic beverages on the roads or trails. 3. Please do not bring your own beer – especially onto a brewery’s property. 4. Breweries do not serve to anyone under 21. Riders of any age are welcome to join us, but do not try to get beer if you are not of age – it will end poorly. 5. Bring cash if you can. Cash speeds up the lines and service. Most beers are $5. T-shirts are $20. 6. Don’t forget to tip your server, many of them only get $2.15 per hour to take care of your beverage needs. Brewery Tour Tips: Nutrition: Very Important – The increased activity and nutrition needs are completely different from sitting in a pub. Everything speeds up. Texas heat only adds to it. 1. Drink more water than beer. Alcohol causes you to dehydrate so if you are drinking beer you are not even coming close to being hydrated properly. Drink twice the water as you would beer. 2. Eat a large breakfast before you go on your ride. 3. Eat high Carb foods while on your ride. Like bread (poor boys) or potatoes (French fries). It will not sober you up but it will slow the absorption of alcohol into your system. Cliff bars do not work well and caffeine just makes you a wide awake drunk. 4. When you have stopped drinking you have about 30 to 45 minutes before all of the alcohol is in your system fully. That is when the trouble starts and you become impaired beyond control. So get to a safe place quickly after the tour stops. Do not leave your bicycle at any of the breweries. Legal and reasonability: Know your limit. 1. The Texas penal code addressing D.W.I. is § 49.04 and it specifically says “motor vehicle”. Remember if you ride while intoxicated on the streets acting like a car you can get a DWI in the state of Texas. Most likely you will get PI instead. 2. You are an Adult Drink Responsible. 3. Have a bailout plan, some one that can come pick you up. 4. If you ride Drunk on a Bike you may not kill someone but you may kill yourself. 5. Wear a helmet. (see above) Thank you for getting down to the bottom of this message. We look forward to seeing you all at the event, and we hope you have a wonderful time.
