Believe it or not, we actually did it. You may have thought we either completely against the idea or just too good for it, but nay – we actually did it. Lakewood Brewing Company went and made an American IPA, and not just any old AIPA, but an American IPA made with Texans in mind. That’s right, we’re announcing the release of (the appropriately named) Lakewood IPA to our year-round lineup. This easy-drinking IPA is our first for the style, having brewed a Belgian-style IPA (Hop Trapp), a Session IPA (Hopochondria), and an Imperial India Black Lager (Goatman) over the years.
Brewed with Mosaic, Citra, Mandarina, and Bravo hops, this 7% alc/vol, 50 IBU India pale ale bursts with notes of papaya, tangerine, and grapefruit notes. With a balanced malt bill and a slightly dry finish without an overly-aggressive bitter bite, Lakewood IPA is a great choice for both seasoned “hop heads” and those new to the style.
We’re excited to finally release an American IPA too, as many of you die-hard fans have been asking us to brew one for awhile now. Well, we heard you. However, as exciting as this is, it’s also a little bittersweet for us (no pun intended.) Lakewood IPA is replacing our recently retired IPAs – Hop Trapp, Hopochondria, and Goatman – in our year-round lineup. It was just time. *sniff*
You can now find Lakewood IPA both on taps and store shelves in 6 pack cans around D-FW, with other markets to follow where LBC is sold in the coming weeks. A list of launch events across North Texas, including pint nights & tap takeovers, will be announced weekly on our Facebook page, as well as right here.
You’re also invited to join us for the ‘official’ Launch Party for Lakewood IPA on Friday, March 9th at Happiest Hour, Dallas’s new patio bar & lounge located just steps from American Airlines Center. Specials for the evening will include happy hour pricing on all LBC beers from 4-8pm, $5 pints of IPA or $7 23oz IPA drafts – plus $5 IPA, Lager & All Call cans, and $20 mix-and-match buckets of LBC cans. Swag and glassware will also be available (while supplies last.) Our entire crew will be out there partying, so feel free to stop by, slap some fives, meet and greet, whatever it is you feel like doing – we don’t bite. Well, maybe some of the back-of-the-house dudes.

With a new year comes big changes at Lakewood Brewing Company, including some exciting new releases and a few favorites being retired.
We’re very excited to announce the upcoming release of a brand new, year-round IPA lovingly called, well, Lakewood IPA! With a blend of Bravo, Citra, Mosaic, and Mandarina Bavaria hops, this balanced, highly-drinkable American India pale ale bursts with tropical fruit notes without an overly aggressive, bitter bite. It’s the perfect everyday IPA for both bonafide lupulin lovers and IPA newbies. It joins the ever-popular Temptress, Lakewood Lager, and All Call in our year-round lineup. Look for its release on draft exclusively at the Taproom early this year, with a full package release in 6 pack cans and draft this spring. 7% alc/vol, 50 IBU.
Hop Trapp Belgian IPA, Hopochondria Session IPA, and Goatman Imperial India Black Lager are all being retired from our year-round lineup, however. This is very bittersweet for us, as we view them as our children – hoppy, boozy children, but our children all the same. In fact, Hop Trapp was the second beer we released when we were but fledgling brewers back in 2012. Sure it’s a little difficult to say goodbye, but our new IPA has us very excited and we think you’re gonna like the new kid on the block.
On the seasonal front, both Punkel Pumpkin Pie-spiced Dunkel and Holiday Bonus Festive Porter are being retired to make room for two new, limited seasonal releases later this year – Artsy Tartsy Berliner-style Weisse w/ black currants and Cold Front IPA. Both Till & Toil Saison (spring release) and Zomer dry hopped Pilsner (summer release) return to the lineup.
The Seduction Series will see three favorites retired (for now at least) – Raspberry Temptress, Mole Temptress, & Sin Mint Temptress. French Quarter Temptress will be released in mid-January, just in time for your Mardi Gras celebrations! Coconut Temptress will return late spring/early summer, followed by two new variants (being kept under wraps) later in the year.
We understand if this comes as a shock. Hell, we were a little shocked when we came up with the idea, but innovation in brewing is what keeps things fresh and excites us. We view the Seduction Series as a rotating lineup of Temptress variants – a way for us to experiment and try new things with this amazing stout. Luckily, there’s no need to be all doom and gloom. Past variants aren’t going away forever ever – they’re just taking a little break. They may pop up again from time to time, or make another appearance down the road in some form or fashion. In fact, we’ll still feature many of these “retirees” from time-to-time in the Taproom at the brewery, including Raspberry and Mole Temptress! So if you’re really missing a little heat or sweet in your Temptress, you know where to get your fix.
We also have an array of unique, special offerings being released throughout the year! Grim Shearer, the third and final release in the Three Fates mini-series (and Legendary Series release #10,) is a unique, 11.4% ABV Rye Wine aged in rye whiskey barrels and will arrive in late January. Red Wine Till & Toil returns this spring, as well as this year’s anniversary beer – Lion’s Share VI (a blended, barrel-aged strong ale arriving this summer) and Bourbon Barrel Temptress (this winter.) Look for a couple of interesting collaborations with our friends from Jack Daniels to debut this summer, including Tennessee Temptress and Jack’d Up Lemonale, both of which will be draft only. We’ll also feature an occasional release from our Lakewood Barrel Works program, such as experimental sours and wild ales. Wild Manimal, our dry hopped American wild ale, will be released in 750mL bottles for the first time this February. These will be limited offerings with no real timeline for their release, hence why we haven’t listed them on our release calendar. Essentially, when the beer is ready and it tells us it go-time, we listen.

Lakewood Brewing Company Announces Much Anticipated 2017 Craft Beer Releases
Dallas, TX: Lakewood Brewing Company has been ‘brewing up’ a great lineup of 2017 releases. Customers across North Texas and other regions can look forward to these upcoming craft beers in LBC’s 5th year of brewing customer favorites.
“We took 2016 to look at what was working and what needed to be tweaked. We’ve been hard at work preparing for this all year and we’re excited to announce our 2017 releases,” stated Wim Bens, Founder & President of Lakewood Brewing Company.
Goatman Imperial India Black Lager makes its triumphant return in early spring in 4-pack bottles. This 9.3% ABV brew originally made its debut as the third release in LBC’s Legendary Series, one of its most popular…and is the first to be brought back. Dry hopped with copious amounts of Simcoe, this dank, roasty, malty beer is described as a ‘hybrid between a German Schwarzbier and an Imperial Cascadian Black IPA.’
The Seduction Series will be moving from 22oz bottles to its new packaging in 4-pack bottles. In addition to introducing a fifth variation to the Seduction Series lineup later in the year, LBC will also be barrel-aging a portion of all the Seduction Series as very limited, draft-only releases throughout the year.
Red Wine Till & Toil, a fan favorite, will be in limited release, 22oz. bottles for the first time. Artsy Tartsy, LBC’s fruited Berliner Weisse, will make a return this summer as a refreshing draft only release, while Zomer Pils will now be sold exclusively in cans and dry-hopped with a combo of Lemondrop, Sterling, and Saaz hops.
“We keep listening to our fans and our brew crew keeps innovating delicious new beers,” Wim emphasized. “I’m very excited to share these with craft beer fans across the state.”
Starting this week, Lion’s Share IV will start roaring onto store shelves and into bars and restaurants across the state. I took a few moments to talk about this year’s anniversary release with Tim Deemer, LBC Lead Brewer and the owner of the most majestic, lion-like mane of hair in the company.
