Press Release: Grim Shearer Brings An End to Trilogy

Lakewood Brewing Company is excited to release Grim Shearer, the final of three unique, wood-aged beers in a miniseries within their limited Legendary Series, which has spanned over 16 months. The Legendary Series is LBC’s specially brewed beers inspired by both worldly and local myths and legends, each brewed only once with the intention of never being brewed again.
The tenth individual release in the Legendary Series, and third & final installment in the Three Fates mini-series, Grim Shearer is a Rye Whiskey barrel-aged Rye Wine clocking in at 11.4% alc/vol. Gracefully aged over 8 months in rye whiskey barrels, it lends flavors of sun-dried cherries, toffee, maple, and a subtle spice from the rye.
“We’re excited to complete this story and series of beers, showcasing the amazing qualities that come with varying malt bills to complement the different barrels,” stated Wim Bens, Founder & President of Lakewood Brewing Company.
The Trilogy chosen for this project is based on the famous legend of the Three Fates – Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos. The three sisters determined the fates of both Gods and mortals alike with their infamous thread of life. One sister spun the thread (birth), one sister measured the thread (life), and one sister cut the thread (death). You can pair Grim Shearer with the other two offerings previously released in the miniseries – Thread Spinner Bourbon barrel-aged Barleywine (released fall of 2016) and Grand Allowance Chardonnay barrel-aged Wheat Wine (released spring of 2017) – for an epic vertical experience.
“We love seeing how the personality of each beer comes through, how the difference in age and cellar time influences each beer, and how they relate to each other when tried side-by-side,” added Bens. “It’s been a long project, but one we’ve really enjoyed.”
The brewery once again enlisted the artistic talents of illustrator Nathan Walker to create the visually dynamic bottle art for the series. “Nathan’s art is so rich and visually dynamic, and fans have loved the previous bottle art,” stated Bens. “Now you’re able to put all three bottles together for a beautiful, eye-catching triptych.” LBC has also used Walker’s illustrations for their Seduction Series and DFW collaboration brews.
Collectors and craft beer fans can enjoy Grim Shearer, now available in select craft retailers, both on draft and in 22oz bottles across D-FW.

Lakewood Brewing Company Announces Much Anticipated 2017 Craft Beer Releases
Dallas, TX: Lakewood Brewing Company has been ‘brewing up’ a great lineup of 2017 releases. Customers across North Texas and other regions can look forward to these upcoming craft beers in LBC’s 5th year of brewing customer favorites.
“We took 2016 to look at what was working and what needed to be tweaked. We’ve been hard at work preparing for this all year and we’re excited to announce our 2017 releases,” stated Wim Bens, Founder & President of Lakewood Brewing Company.
Goatman Imperial India Black Lager makes its triumphant return in early spring in 4-pack bottles. This 9.3% ABV brew originally made its debut as the third release in LBC’s Legendary Series, one of its most popular…and is the first to be brought back. Dry hopped with copious amounts of Simcoe, this dank, roasty, malty beer is described as a ‘hybrid between a German Schwarzbier and an Imperial Cascadian Black IPA.’
The Seduction Series will be moving from 22oz bottles to its new packaging in 4-pack bottles. In addition to introducing a fifth variation to the Seduction Series lineup later in the year, LBC will also be barrel-aging a portion of all the Seduction Series as very limited, draft-only releases throughout the year.
Red Wine Till & Toil, a fan favorite, will be in limited release, 22oz. bottles for the first time. Artsy Tartsy, LBC’s fruited Berliner Weisse, will make a return this summer as a refreshing draft only release, while Zomer Pils will now be sold exclusively in cans and dry-hopped with a combo of Lemondrop, Sterling, and Saaz hops.
“We keep listening to our fans and our brew crew keeps innovating delicious new beers,” Wim emphasized. “I’m very excited to share these with craft beer fans across the state.”

Everybody’s Gonna Pay… An IPA Q&A

TrollTollIPAQA
Starting this week, Troll Toll will emerge from the darkness and make it’s way to stores and taps across the state. To commemorate the arrival of this legendary beast, I took a moment to again chat with Shawn Vail, Head Brewer here at Lakewood Brewing Co. As our most elite hoperative and a troll hunter of some repute, I knew he was the man to teach me the ways of vicious Troll Toll, and his bitter IPA brethren. Beware the night, man, for the Troll Toll cometh…
