2018: Hello, Goodbye

With a new year comes big changes at Lakewood Brewing Company, including some exciting new releases and a few favorites being retired.
We’re very excited to announce the upcoming release of a brand new, year-round IPA lovingly called, well, Lakewood IPA! With a blend of Bravo, Citra, Mosaic, and Mandarina Bavaria hops, this balanced, highly-drinkable American India pale ale bursts with tropical fruit notes without an overly aggressive, bitter bite. It’s the perfect everyday IPA for both bonafide lupulin lovers and IPA newbies. It joins the ever-popular Temptress, Lakewood Lager, and All Call in our year-round lineup. Look for its release on draft exclusively at the Taproom early this year, with a full package release in 6 pack cans and draft this spring. 7% alc/vol, 50 IBU.
  • Hop Trapp Belgian IPA, Hopochondria Session IPA, and Goatman Imperial India Black Lager are all being retired from our year-round lineup, however. This is very bittersweet for us, as we view them as our children – hoppy, boozy children, but our children all the same. In fact, Hop Trapp was the second beer we released when we were but fledgling brewers back in 2012. Sure it’s a little difficult to say goodbye, but our new IPA has us very excited and we think you’re gonna like the new kid on the block.
  • On the seasonal front, both Punkel Pumpkin Pie-spiced Dunkel and Holiday Bonus Festive Porter are being retired to make room for two new, limited seasonal releases later this year – Artsy Tartsy Berliner-style Weisse w/ black currants and Cold Front IPA. Both Till & Toil Saison (spring release) and Zomer dry hopped Pilsner (summer release) return to the lineup.
The Seduction Series will see three favorites retired (for now at least) – Raspberry Temptress, Mole Temptress, & Sin Mint Temptress. French Quarter Temptress will be released in mid-January, just in time for your Mardi Gras celebrations! Coconut Temptress will return late spring/early summer, followed by two new variants (being kept under wraps) later in the year.
  • We understand if this comes as a shock. Hell, we were a little shocked when we came up with the idea, but innovation in brewing is what keeps things fresh and excites us. We view the Seduction Series as a rotating lineup of Temptress variants – a way for us to experiment and try new things with this amazing stout. Luckily, there’s no need to be all doom and gloom. Past variants aren’t going away forever ever – they’re just taking a little break. They may pop up again from time to time, or make another appearance down the road in some form or fashion. In fact, we’ll still feature many of these “retirees” from time-to-time in the Taproom at the brewery, including Raspberry and Mole Temptress! So if you’re really missing a little heat or sweet in your Temptress, you know where to get your fix.
  • We also have an array of unique, special offerings being released throughout the year! Grim Shearer, the third and final release in the Three Fates mini-series (and Legendary Series release #10,) is a unique, 11.4% ABV Rye Wine aged in rye whiskey barrels and will arrive in late January. Red Wine Till & Toil returns this spring, as well as this year’s anniversary beer – Lion’s Share VI (a blended, barrel-aged strong ale arriving this summer) and Bourbon Barrel Temptress (this winter.) Look for a couple of interesting collaborations with our friends from Jack Daniels to debut this summer, including Tennessee Temptress and Jack’d Up Lemonale, both of which will be draft only. We’ll also feature an occasional release from our Lakewood Barrel Works program, such as experimental sours and wild ales. Wild Manimal, our dry hopped American wild ale, will be released in 750mL bottles for the first time this February. These will be limited offerings with no real timeline for their release, hence why we haven’t listed them on our release calendar. Essentially, when the beer is ready and it tells us it go-time, we listen.
We can’t wait to show you what we have in store for 2018, and look forward to sharing a glass with you very soon. Schol!

Start the year in mint condition

We’re happy to announce that our brand new Seduction Series release, Sin Mint Temptress, is out now on area DFW bar and restaurant taps! The fourth release in this series pays homage to a little guilty pleasure in the form of a very popular cookie. This exhilirating offering infuses mint, vanilla, and a touch of graham cracker into our decadent imperial milk stout post-fermentation, creating a fresh, cooling treat that will leave you craving more. Harmony never tasted so good.

Keep your eyes out for her at your favorite drinking spot or growler station. Schol!

2014 Bourbon Barrel Temptress Out Now!

We’re happy to announce that starting today, you can find our limited release 2014 Bourbon Barrel Temptress (BBT) on North Texas area store shelves and taps! We take our popular imperial milk stout and age it in freshly emptied oak bourbon barrels for almost 6 months, imparting luscious notes of vanilla, oak, toffee, caramel, and roasted coffee. This barrel-aged beauty is back only for a short time in 22 ounce bottles and draft – just in time for the holidays. Drink this dangerously smooth treat now or let it age. Either way the reward will be worth it. 9.8% alc/vol

September 4th (today) marks the exact midway point to Mardi Gras, so naturally we’re honoring the occasion by reprising the most requested cask in our “Seduction Series” by releasing a special limited edition batch of French Quarter Temptress.
Capturing the spirit and attitude of New Orleans, this beer possesses the boldness of barrel-aged coffee and chicory within the incredibly smooth 9.1 percent ABV Imperial Milk Stout. Using a process unique to coffee roasting, we partnered with Kevin and Marta Sprague at Noble Coyote Coffee Roasters in East Dallas to create the perfect combination.
We barrel-aged coffee beans, coining it Operation B.R.E.W. (Beans Resting, Enhanced by Whiskey.) Using one of our spent Bourbon Barrel Temptress barrels, Noble Coyote aged green Peruvian Cajamarca coffee beans for four months, which imparted subtle notes of bourbon to the beans. Once the beans were ready, Noble Coyote roasted the coffee and we added it to the beer along with a touch of chicory for some additional spiciness and complexity to give it that “signature” New Orleans taste.
As purveyors of a different kind of craft ‘brew’, we really respect Noble Coyote’s utilization of Fair Trade coffee and their passion for small-batch, artisan coffee roasting. It was the perfect choice for our French Quarter Temptress.   We hope you enjoy drinking this beer as much as we do. Now grab some beads, a beignet, and lets raise a glass together.

Second Anniversary Bash is Upon Us!

In case you haven’t heard, we’re getting a little older this weekend. Two years ago we sold our very first kegs at Goodfriend beer garden and burger house, launching LBC with just two beers (Rock Ryder and Hop Trapp). Last year we celebrated our first anniversary with one hell of a party. This year, we’re bringing the party back to Goodfriend for an even bigger bash.

We’re kicking it up a notch with more space, more beers, more friends, and more fun. We’ve added a 40′ x 60′ air-conditioned tent outside that will feature a beer garden atmosphere, plus 18 taps of various LBC brews, ranging from limited release specialties to your year-round favorites. ALL TAPS OPEN AT 11:00, so if you see something you want to try, get there early as most of these won’t last long.

    On tap:

    Rock Ryder

    Hop Trapp

The Temptress (both regular & Nitro)

    Lakewood Lager

    Zomer Pils

    Antigoon’s Revenge

    2013 Bourbon Barrel Temptress #BBT13

    Bourbon Barrel-aged Punkel

    Red Wine Till & Toil

    Brabo’s Reserve (Red wine barrel-aged Brabo’s Cut)

La Dame du Bois (Red wine barrel-aged La Dame du Lac)

    Estéban: Tequila barrel-aged Lakewood Lager

Francisco: Tequila barrel-aged Lakewood Lager w/ ancho chiles

Magdalena: Tequila barrel-aged La Dame du Lac

Mole Temptress on Randall w/ chili peppers

Fresh Lemon & Ginger Rock Ryder cask

And featuring the debut of our second anniversary ale:

Lion’s Share II – Wine barrel-aged Berliner Weisse aged on black currants

For our second anniversary, we wanted to explore the nuances and beauty that comes from barrel-aging beer, but with a style that’s very light and sessionable. With our anniversary being in the heat of early August, the beer had to be thirst quenching and drinkable with the warmer weather, yet still have character and depth. We felt a berliner weisse exemplified that style. Tart, acidic, and light-bodied, this slightly sour German wheat beer has been steadily gaining popularity. We brewed our take on this traditional style, then re-fermented the beer with black currants in recently emptied chardonnay, merlot, and cabernet barrels sourced from Napa Valley. Black currants have been used for centuries in Belgian brewing, but are rarely seen in American beers. Re-fermentation in the barrel, with the fruit, helped “dry” the beer out lending even more tart notes and complexity along with a beautiful rosy hue. After spending roughly 2 months in the barrels, we blended it back with a fresh batch of the berliner weisse giving us a truly unique beer perfect for an anniversary party unlike any other.

The day-long event will also include a limited supply of commemorative glassware (available while supplies last) plus custom screen printed shirts provided by Printed Threads available for purchase—choose from one of two unique designs and have it printed onsite. 20% of the proceeds from all purchased shirts will go directly to the Human Rights Initiative of North Texas, Inc.

Of course, no party would be complete without some great live music. Entertainment will include: Andrew Delaney & the Horse You Rode In On; Foxtrot Uniform; The Hazardous Dukes; and Shotgun Friday.

From all of our crew, we want to thank you for making the past two years possible. Without your support, there would be no LBC. We look forward to raising a glass with you. Schol!
